CIRDC can spread at the groomer, training class, doggy daycare, dog parks, dog shows and boarding kennels. Talk to your clients to help them understand their dog’s risk of exposure to CIRDC—and ways to help prevent it.

Ticks are commonly found in woods, shrubs, wood piles, leaf litter and crawl spaces. In 2023, the black-legged tick was documented in all 50 US states and 1,840 of the 3,110 counties in the US and its territories^*.

Canine Lyme disease can cause serious illness and even death in dogs. In addition, infected dogs may not show clinical signs or test positive for months after being bitten by a tick, which is why it’s critical to talk with clients about various methods to help protect against canine Lyme disease^*.

Annual vaccination against Borrelia burgdorferi, avoiding tick-infested areas, a year-round tick control product, and regular tick checks are all ways to help prevent canine Lyme disease.
